> Comments:> Elecraft K3 + PGXL amp C31xr @ 70′ Conditions better than expected. When the band died – it died hard and fast. Most exciting QSO was having FR4QT call in on Sunday morning. He was 59+20! Seemed like activity was down on SSB. Was easy to find a frequency but no big runs.

Comments:
A limited antenna operation from the Florida condo, using an 80M OCF up 45 feet
or so in the trees along the condo property line.
Perhaps more time than I expected to spend, but a crazy good Es opening on
Friday night made things worth persisting. I was doing OK when we got a Facetime
call from our daughter and grandkids around 0030Z. Getting back on I then had a
119 QSO hour, including a 25 minute run at 201/hour, which also filled in most
of the close in states on both modes, though I did end up missing PA, VA, and MO
on SSB. Saturday evening the band was dead at the same time.
Not surprisingly CA was the most worked state (46 QSOs) followed by MN (38) and
MA (34). But from Florida one does not expect to work 17 people in Tennessee.
I also had a gentle 90 minutes at 50/hour run on CW late Sunday, while also
clearing out a thousand or so old junk email while pushing the CQ button and
working the occasional callers.
Definitely one to remember, given the likely downward side of the solar cycle.

Had fun this weekend dabbling in 10 meter test. Fairly good condx and lots to work. Decided to do Assisted and run a bit and hunt mults a bit. One highlight during a run, I looked at the bandmap and saw 4 Ohio stations (one in FL nw) in a row on the band map. K8MFO, K1LT, W8CAR, K8MR. WE owned the band!
Did have a scare when trying to crank up the tower on Friday, the brake pawl was frozen and didn’t latch. Had to gently lower with no brake and apply some heat and good ole PB Blaster to free it up. All seems well.

I thought conditions were pretty good, maybe not the best but still I could work pretty much anywhere.
When the sun went down so did the bands. Last weekend was a night time contest with 160, and this was a daylight contest.
Thanks to all that heard me.
Oh, I did work all 50 states, I can’t recall doing that in the past. OK and AR were the last two. Seems like CA and TX were always there.

Comments: This was the first test of the remote after last year’s failure of my
router and Remote Rig box at the station end, putting me off the air for the
winter. The remote is working fine except that I can’t access my antenna
switch so I only have two antennas to use for now. I have a couple of
ideas to fix this so I might get back access to my other two antennas.
For me, this was a contest to see whether a 40M dipole or a 20M dipole is worst
on 10M. The K3 loads both of them, but neither performs well. I could work most
of the loud stations but not much else. 10M opens to EU around my bedtime here.
I’m just getting over jet-lag so it made sense to sleep rather than
staying up trying to work EU with an antenna designed for another band.
